Types of USB

By the way, there are many types of USB but in the meantime, we are going to tell some of the most common types.

Type A: This is in the shape of a Rectangle, it has four pins. This type is used most. e.g. – pen drive, mouse, keyboard, data cable

Type B: There are also four pins in it and they are suppressed from both sides. e.g. – Printer, Scanner

Mini-A & Mini-B: This type has five pins. You can see their size in the lower picture. e.g. – Digital Camera, Hub

Micro-A  & Micro-B: In Type also has five pins. These types are found in smartphones.

What are the Advantages of USB?

Ease of use: USB has been developed because it can be used easily by users.

Single Interface for Multiple Devices: Due to the versatile nature of USB, it removes complexity in connecting with different devices. It easily connects with other peripherals.

Auto-configuration: There is a need to install the USB device driver only once on the operating system of the host device. Later whenever the peripheral device is connected to the system, it will automatically load its driver, so that it will configure the plugged-in device. It can be easily used by it.

Easy to expand: There are 3 to 4 USB ports in general computers (Motherboards) generally. And if more USB ports are needed in the future, then using the USB hubs, we can add external ports.

Having Compact Size: The size of the USB sockets is very small if we compare it to RS232 and parallel ports.

External power is not required: External power is not required to run USB devices because they are made according to which they can provide 5V DC to the host device.

Speed: USB has much more speed and efficiency than other Cables. They provide a speed of data transmission rate of approximately 1.5Mbit / s to 5Gbit / s.

Reliability: These USB protocols can catch large data during data transfer so that they notify the transmitter to retransmit the data. Generally, to ensure the generic USB driver and specific driver software error-free data communication.

Low cost: Due to its versatile nature and high demand, it can be manufactured very cheaply. Due to its high availability of components, its manufacturing can be easily scaled.

Low power consumption: USB devices usually work only at +5V and many works consume current, which is in some Milliampere.

There are also some disadvantages, so let’s know about the same. Also, read about VPN full form.

What are the disadvantages of USB:

Speed: With the new technology USB 3.0, the data transfer rate of up to 5Gbits / sec can be reached. But this is still very low from Gigabit Ethernet.

Peer-to-Peer Communication: According to the USB standard, only the host and peripheral interaction can be done. Here two hosts cannot communicate directly with each other. And it also happens with the peripheral. But only supports peripheral communication from interfaces such as FireWire peripherals.

No distance: Connecting cable according to the USB standards can be up to a maximum of 5 meters, after which USB hubs are used to extend connectivity.

Broadcasting: We can not broadcast on Universal Serial Bus, only individual messages can be communicated here, between the host and peripheral.
